Kenneth Pils

(born 1964 Jönköping, raised in Huskvarna, Sweden). The last name Pils originates from Austria.
After studies at National College of Art in Stockholm and the Art Academy in Stockholm, he now lives and works in Stockholm. During his studies at National College of Art in Stockholm, he met his the artist Lotte Nilsson Välimaa with whom he has made numerous art projects. He is involved in several artist-run activities like Studio 44 and Supermarket Art Fair. Lately he started up the interdisciplinary and international research project "Being in the world" (http://beingintheworld.net).

Firmly rooted in painting, Pils moves around in a borderland where (what we call) painting merge with (what we call) installation, sculpture and graphics. He believes that as an artist he should orientate himself not so much within, but rather through the canons of traditional disciplines, meaning that he allows himself to develop his conceptual and theoretical notions from the intrinsic value achieved, and media/language used by predecessors. The choice for such a starting point remains of course quite personal and Pils's working method is in fact not quite as calculated as it might appear on first sight, especially upon encountering his highly formal works.

The discourse in Pils's later art practice is research which deals with images of the self and the others (das man), of being in and coping with all the aspects of the world. In Pils's research practice it is important to be aware of how the work of art appear and interact with the one hwo face the art piece since it determines the world view for that person.
By using direct bodily actions (eg painting) along with indirect technical interfaces (eg computers), methodology and random methods the intentionality self (of the artist) and the interpretation of the work is put in question
